We foster Europe’s scientific competence and competitiveness by strategically pooling available resources linked to greenhouse gas measurements. By cooperation and creating a joint network, it is possible to foster scientific excellence cost-efficiently.

ICOS has been established to ensure high-quality measurements of greenhouse gas concentrations that are independent, transparent and reliable. In turn, this observational network will support governments in their efforts to mitigate climate change as well as hold them accountable for reaching their mitigation targets.

ICOS opens new opportunities for its member countries to be connected with the European and global community of researchers, and it provides easy access to new methods and instrumentation.

Member States of the European Union, associated countries, countries other than associated countries and intergovernmental organisations may become ICOS Members or Observers.

Stations pursuing to become part of ICOS research infrastructure need to run through station labelling process.
