The Integrated Carbon Observation System, ICOS, produces standardised data on greenhouse gases, which is essential in understanding and mitigating climate change. Our data is being used by scientists as well as by governments and international organisations in their efforts to solve challenges caused by global warming. ICOS research infrastructure is funded by 16 European countries and has its Head Office of ca 18 persons in Kumpula, Helsinki.
ICOS is working together with other research infrastructures and scientific partners to facilitate better science. We are currently responsible for several websites and other online platforms, including e.g. www.icos-ri.eu and www.envri.eu. Additionally, we are involved in many EU-funded projects in which we are building new online platforms. To coordinate and participate in this work, we are now looking for a
Digital Communications Specialist
You are an experienced professional and you will work in the ICOS Communications team of six persons, and report to the Head of Communications at ICOS. In this role, you will:
- Coordinate the building and development of an ERIC FORUM online platform, funded by the European Commission. You will gather requirements, select partners, and coordinate the building of the platform with technical development partners, fellow research infrastructures, and other users such as the EU Commission.
- Develop and improve the ICOS website with in-house technical developers and the rest of the communications team.
- Participate in the development of project websites and other online platforms ICOS is tasked with. Produce reports and e.g. user instructions.
- Contribute to ICOS communications through producing e.g. website content, news articles, infographics, videos, designs and other branded materials according to your time, interests and competencies.
- In addition to the above tasks, you will also get to work with other comms related projects according to your interests and availability.

This a full-time, fixed-term position until December 31, 2025. However, there is a possibility to extend the contract, depending on the availability of external project funding. The salary is around 3700-4200 euros, related to the experience of the selected person. There is a six-month trial period. ICOS ERIC is an equal opportunity employer.
The position is located in the ICOS Head Office in Helsinki, Finland. We have a hybrid way of working. Short periods of totally remote work (e.g. in another EU country) are also possible. Working permit in an EU country is required.
To succeed in this role
A successful candidate should hold a university degree in a relevant field (for example communications, marketing, IT/software, environmental science) and have solid experience in developing and maintaining online platforms and UX. Good skills in managing online/web development projects are required, and experience in working with external web development companies is an asset. An ability to facilitate workshops, and produce short reports and other documents will make you successful in this role. Basic coding skills and knowledge of other IT systems are also useful although not necessary.
In addition to having good skills in content management systems, (we use Drupal and Wordpress) you will benefit from knowing analytics and SEO and the logic of social media. Good skills in MS Office, and the ability to quickly learn new digital tools are necessary.
Our new colleague must be fluent in written and spoken English and possess skills to write stories and produce other content to be published. An ideal candidate is a self-directed, versatile and hands-on professional, able to prioritise the work and tasks within a project. You should have strong collaboration skills and good presentation skills. Experience in European Union funded (e.g. H2020) projects, or European Union organisations is also an asset, but not a must. The position requires some travelling within Europe, a few times a year.
