There are two new full-time additions to the Head Office – Peter Taggart, familiar to the organisation, has signed on as Communications Planner, and Annina Bergman, who has a background in communications and website development, has joined the team from January.
Peter originally joined ICOS in June 2023 as a trainee, helping to organise ICOS Science Conference 2022. After completing his traineeship, he worked at several Finnish universities before returning to ICOS in June 2023 as part of the Communications Team. With a background in Russian Studies, he became interested in research communications during his MA studies.
“All too often I came across really interesting and important research that only lived in niche academic journals. I thought I’d try to produce interesting communications outputs during my studies. Turns out, I really enjoyed this kind of work!”
Now that Peter has returned to ICOS, he is once again part of this year’s ICOS Science Conference organisation team. He is also contributing to the FLUXES, the greenhouse gas bulletin, and will coordinate the communications for a new ICOS project, NUBICOS (New Users for a Better ICOS).
“I had a great feeling about coming back to ICOS,” Peter says. “It’s nice to know that my work was valued enough the first time around that the Head Office was keen to have me back!”
Annina has experience managing website development projects as well as writing content and creating digital assets. She started as a journalist, but quickly became interested in digital communications and user experience. Originally from Finland, she has lived in 7 countries over the past 17 years, and is happy to be back home. This year, she will mainly be focusing on the ERIC Forum 2 project, with the goal to develop the shared ERIC toolkit and website. She will also be contributing to creating content and working on the ICOS main website.
“I am excited to be here – after only two weeks at the job I already sense it is a passionate, engaged community, with so much expertise and skill, not to mention heart. I can’t wait to get stuck in andwork on improving ICOS' and the other ERICs’ digital visibility and usability.”
