ICOS at GEO Week 2017

19 October 2017

ICOS is taking part in the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) Week 2017 in Washington D.C., USA from 23rd till 27th October 2017. The GEO Week, consisting of a plenary, several side-events, and an exhibition, will highlight the role, applications and opportunities to use Earth Observations (EO) in delivering 'Insight for a changing world', through the use and applications of EO in both the public and private sectors for the benefit of humankind.

ICOS will be coordinating the European Environmental Research Infrastructure (ENVRI) Community booth at the Exhibition (24th – 26th October). The booth will introduce the ENVRI community and show examples of Environmental Research Infrastructures and their contributions to Global Networks as well as to GEO Flagships and Initiatives.

Throughout the week, ICOS will also co-organize two side-events with a high-level participation from the European Commission and the GEO Secretariat.

On Monday 23rd, the aim of the ENVRI side-event “The European Environmental Research Infrastructure Community as sustainable in situ contribution to EuroGEOSS” will be to create awareness on the matching between the European “supply” of data, information and knowledge to the in-situ component of GEOSS through ENVRI, and GEO’s “demand” of knowledge for its Flagships, Initiatives and Community Activities.

On Tuesday 24th, the side-event “GEO-C: Toward policy-relevant global carbon and GHG observations” will focus on the last developments of the Initiative and present future activities as well as showcases of the US potential contribution. The ICOS coordinated GEO Carbon and GHG Initiative (GEO-C) will also be presented at the European Commission booth and the Japan booth.
